'Away We Go ~ Matike Mai'… so, what does it actually mean?

‘Away We Go’ represents momentum and action.

It is a common phrase in sport and a nod to Rachel’s seven seasons in Formula 1, where it is often used to signal the start of a race: “The lights are out, and awaaaay we go!”

‘Matike Mai’ is a Māori interpretation of ‘Away We Go’, meaning ‘rise up’.

Gifted by mātauranga (Māori knowledge) expert Moe Milne (Ngāti Hine, Ngāpuhi), it reflects Rachel’s ongoing journey in Te Ao Māori (the Māori world) and the commitment of the Away We Go ~ Matike Mai team to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
